Step-by-Step instructions to make your fabric PPE mask
Cut a piece of fabric 15″ x 14″
(a) Cut 4 strips 1,5″ x 14″. These are for the straps.
(b) The remaining large piece should measure 9″ x 14″ – this is for the mask.
(a) Iron folds onto each side of the strips to create the look of bias binding.
(b) Fold the strip over again and iron.
(c) Now sew the open edge of each strip together using either a straight or zig-zag stitch.
Take the mask fabric, fold it right side together along the long side. Finger press the fold. The size is now 7″ x 9″. (Fold length is 9″.)
Open the fabric for the mask. Pin a strap on the edge of the fold – pin another strap about 0,5″ from the outer edge.
Re-fold the mask. Starting at the fold sew down one side to the corner (securing the straps inside the seam). Turn and sew down the other side.
Turn the mask right side out and iron. At the open end, iron a 0,5″ casing.
(a) Pin the last two straps inside the open end of the mask.
(b) Then sew around the perimeter of the mask while securing the straps and closing the open end.
Mark a line 1,5″ from the bottom of the mask and 2,25″ from the top of the mask.
(a) Iron folds along the those lines to create a 0,5″ pleat.
(b) Pin the pleats down. Sew down the edge of the mask to secure the pleats – I recommend sewing down each end twice.
THE FINISHED MASK!
